Glycemic Load and Smarter Cookies

Another way that diabetics, people in treatment for cancer and people who are trying to lose weight look at carbohydrates are by monitoring the Glycemic Load (GL) of what they eat.

The lower the Glycemic Load, the less blood glucose is affected. According to The Glycemic Gourmet the equation for calculating GL is:

Total Grams of Carbohydrates in a serving= TGC
Total Grams of Fiber in a serving = TGF

TGC (TGC – TGF)/100 = GL.

For instance one serving of a Smarter Cookie Original has
18 g carbohydrates and 1.7 g of fiber.

To calculate A Smarter Cookie Original’s one serving GL:
18(18-1.7)/100 = 18(16.3)/100 = 2.93

What does a Glycemic Load of 2.93 mean?

According to Everyday Health
a low Glycemic Load number is 10 or less.
